    SURFACE

Surface laser correction for thin corneas and active lifestyles

    What is SURFACE?

SURFACE (SMARTsurf = TRANS PRK, LASEK, or NO CUT) is the treatment method recommended if you have severe astigmatism and thin corneas, and cannot undergo a SMILE PRO or FEMTO LASIK procedure as a result. After this surgery, 3 days are necessary for healing time and visual acuity usually stabilises within a few months. This method guarantees the same effect — your perfect vision.

    Why choose SURFACE?

    No corneal flap

Surface procedure without cutting a corneal flap — a safe option for thin corneas.

    For active lifestyles

Ideal for sports and contact activities — no risk of flap displacement.

    Precise results

Excimer laser accuracy corrects myopia and astigmatism with predictable outcomes.

    Retreatment guarantee

Retreatment is included if a correction adjustment is ever needed.

    How does SURFACE work?

    How is SURFACE performed?

A safe, precise surface procedure completed in minutes — no cuts, no needles.

    01

    Anesthetic drops

Anesthetic drops are applied to the eye. No injections or needles are used.

    02

    Epithelium preparation

The thin outer layer of the cornea is gently loosened and moved aside to expose the treatment area.

    03

    Laser correction

The excimer laser reshapes the cornea in seconds to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

    04

    Protective lens

A soft protective contact lens is placed to support natural healing.

    05

    Healing and recovery

Vision improves within the first days and continues to sharpen over the following weeks.

    We answer your questions

Considering laser eye surgery? Please find the FAQs below. If you can not find the answer to your question, do not hesitate to contact us.

The most common laser treatments in the world are FS‑LASIK and SMILE PRO. Another good option is SURFACE (SMARTsurf = TRANS PRK, LASEK, or NO CUT), recommended if you have high astigmatism or thin corneas and therefore can not undergo an FS‑LASIK or SMILE PRO procedure.

“SmartPulse” and “Wavefront” technologies are used in our laser suite, which consists of excimer and femtosecond lasers for vision correction. When these technologies are applied, each patient’s eye is measured and corrected individually, based on personalised parameters. The cornea is treated gently and evenly to achieve the best visual outcome.

It is as easy as 1-2-3. VisioBlu offers a free online consultation, which means you don’t have to go anywhere to find out if laser eye surgery is suitable for you: fill in the form, our specialist will evaluate your data in a few business days, and you get an answer by e-mail.

No, laser eye surgery is not recommended for every patient who requests one. Our doctors will not suggest vision correction if they believe that good vision without glasses is unlikely to be achieved. The operation is recommended only for those with myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism that do not exceed safe operational limits, and who do not have a cornea that is too thin, or any eye diseases or certain other illnesses. Request a free e-consultation to find out if laser eye surgery suits you.

No, you won’t feel pain because your surgeon will place anaesthetic eye drops in your eye first. During the operation, the upper part of the cornea is treated by laser, changing the cornea’s convexity and refractive power, so light rays are focused on the retina and your vision improves. The surgery takes about 20 minutes. Afterwards you will be given detailed instructions, recommendations and a prescription for eye drops, and then you will be ready to go home.

You shouldn’t use eye cosmetics for several weeks after laser eye surgery and you should regularly use eye drops in order to avoid dryness. Do not worry: this is temporary, but your eyes will be more sensitive for some time, so please avoid dust and sun rays (by wearing sunglasses), bathing in open bodies of water and swimming pools.

Laser vision correction does not affect the process of giving birth, nor does giving birth affect corrected eyes. However, it is recommended to wait about six months after the surgery before trying to get pregnant, because of the hormone- and antibiotic-based eye drops used after an operation. Many of our female patients have given birth after laser eye surgery and continue to enjoy excellent vision.

We perform surgery for many patients living abroad; this is common practice for us. For SURFACE laser eye surgery methods (TRANS PRK / LASEK or NO CUT), we usually recommend staying near the chosen clinic for 5–7 days. If you would like a shorter stay, we recommend methods with a faster healing period, such as FS‑LASIK (FEMTO) or SMILE PRO – in that case about 3 days is enough. Please note that the preoperative examination must be carried out at least one day before the surgery.

VisioBlu eye surgery includes a 5- or 10-year guarantee which covers all extra consultations and re-operations if there is such a need. Normally it takes 4–6 months to gain the same vision as with glasses or lenses, so we kindly ask for some patience. We can consult you by e-mail and provide all necessary support, and if you wish to come in, we will provide a free consultation.

We keep a sustainable surgery policy, meaning we identify which treatment will suit the patient the most. Our doctors will not recommend a procedure if it exceeds safe surgery limits. This might be the case when other vision correction methods are more suitable, such as intraocular correction or a clear-lens operation.

The effects of laser eye surgery are long-term and stable. However, these operations are not a restoration of vision but the replacement of one method of correction (glasses or contact lenses) with another. It is expected that after an operation you will be able to see without glasses the way you could before with a good pair of glasses or contact lenses. The results also depend on the extent and complexity of your myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism.

Eyelash extensions do not interfere with the laser vision correction procedure. However, for one month after the procedure – during the healing period – it is recommended not to have eyelash extensions refilled, as the glue may cause allergies. There is also a possibility that a few lashes may fall out during the operation, so if you cannot go without lash extensions afterwards, we recommend removing them before the procedure.

The season does not affect the success of the surgery: patients may choose any time that suits them. However, if you are planning an active holiday afterwards, bear in mind that your eyes will be more sensitive for a while and you will need to watch out for dust and direct sunlight, and avoid bathing in open bodies of water and swimming pools.

The laser vision correction methods are best discussed during a consultation, after examining your eyes and having a complete assessment of your vision. Our specialists will recommend which correction method would be optimal for you.

Laser vision correction can be performed using several different methods, which vary in cost, and therefore the service price also differs. Even when the same method is used, the price of procedures may vary between clinics. VisioBlu aims to provide services at affordable prices, making it possible for as many people as possible to enjoy the freedom of vision without glasses or contact lenses.

You can find our service prices in the prices section of this page.

This depends on the nature of your job. We usually recommend taking a few days off, because this will give you enough time to prepare for the surgery and to be monitored afterwards.
