EDoF lenses: one continuous focus range, smoother transitions
An EDOF (Extended Depth of Focus) lens stretches your eye's focus into one continuous zone, rather than splitting it into separate points — designed for smooth, natural-feeling transitions between distances.
What is an EDoF lens?
EDoF stands for Extended Depth of Focus. Instead of creating distinct focus points like a trifocal lens, an EDOF lens elongates a single focus zone, primarily covering distance and intermediate vision, with some near vision depending on the specific design.
Because light isn't split between several fixed points, EDoF lenses are generally associated with fewer halos and less glare — often preferred by patients who drive frequently at night or who are more sensitive to visual artifacts.

Why choose an EDoF lens?
Smooth, continuous focus range
Rather than fixed points, reducing the “jump” between distances.
Generally fewer visual side effects
Typically less halo and glare sensitivity, based on how the lens splits light.
Strong distance and intermediate vision
A common choice for frequent drivers and computer users.
Available from ZEISS and Alcon
Both manufacturers offer EDoF designs as part of their premium lens ranges.
Can be combined with toric correction
For patients who also have astigmatism.
Who is it for?
EDoF lenses are typically recommended for patients who prioritize smooth distance and intermediate vision with fewer visual side effects, and who are comfortable with reduced near vision compared to a trifocal lens. This is confirmed during your eye exam.
