Toric lenses: correcting astigmatism during lens surgery
A toric intraocular lens corrects astigmatism at the same time as replacing your natural lens — combined with a monofocal, multifocal or EDoF design, depending on your visual needs.
What is a toric lens?
A toric intraocular lens has a different optical power in two perpendicular meridians, which lets it neutralise corneal astigmatism at the same time as short- or long-sightedness. Without this correction, astigmatism leaves the image blurred and stretched at every distance, even after a perfect lens exchange. The lens is calculated individually from corneal topography and biometry, and it is positioned along a precise axis inside the eye — a deviation of just a few degrees reduces the effect, so the alignment is planned digitally and verified during surgery. A toric version is available for monofocal, EDoF and multifocal lenses, so astigmatism never limits your choice of lens.

Why choose a toric lens?
Corrects astigmatism during the same procedure
No separate treatment is needed for the cornea's irregular curvature.
Combines with any focus design
Available as toric monofocal, toric multifocal, or toric EDoF, depending on what you need.
Precisely aligned to your eye
Toric lenses are positioned at a specific axis, measured during your pre-operative exam, to correct your exact astigmatism.
Available from ZEISS and Alcon
Both manufacturers offer toric versions across their lens ranges.
Who is it for?
Toric lenses are recommended for patients undergoing refractive lens exchange (RLE) or cataract surgery who also have astigmatism — regardless of which focus design (monofocal, multifocal or EDoF) fits their other visual needs. Your degree of astigmatism and its axis are measured during your eye exam.
